Louvre Blade Options
With Altair® Louvre Windows you can choose blades that best suit the windows function, such as maximising views, letting in/reducing sunlight, reducing glare, gaining privacy or creating your own design style.
Blade height Altair Louvre Windows are available with two blade heights: 102mm (4”) and 152mm (6”).
Blade length The length of the louvre blade is typically based on the bay width required for the window application and any length restrictions to comply with Building Codes. For more information see FAQ “How wide can my louvres be?”.
Blade thickness The Altair Louvre design has been optimised for 6mm thick glass. The use of other thicknesses will compromise the performance of the product and are not warranted by Breezway.
Blade heights of 102mm (4”)
and 152mm (6”) available.
Altair Louvre blades can be made from glass or aluminium.
Obscure, grey, green, toughened for extra strength and safety, or good old sparkling clear glass! As long as it’s 6mm thick, almost every type of glass can be installed into an Altair Louvre Window.
Aluminium blades are virtually maintenance free, can’t rust and never need painting. Our aluminium blades are offered in a large variety of powder coated colour finishes.

Altair® Louvre Window Sizes
Altair Louvre Windows are custom manufactured to order, meaning there is wide flexibility in sizes available.
Standard heights do exist and are based around the chosen blade height of 102mm and 152mm. Multiples of these blades give standard window heights. Off Standard heights are available but this will add cost and result in a fixed louvre blade to act as a filler piece.
There are no standard Altair Louvre widths.
The desired window width can be achieved through multiple louvre bays. When determining the bay widths possible a rule of thumb is the higher the wind and water performance required, the shorter the blade should be.
The bay width may be affected by Building code rules. Please discuss with your Breezway Dealer and builder.
Screens and Security Bars
Altair® Louvres offer a variety of options to choose from
Insect and Security
There are framing systems today that will allow an insect screen to be placed to the outside of your Altair Louvres. Following discussions with your window manufacturer you may choose Breezway’s Altair Easyscreen Window System. Breezway does not manufacture screens, but there are many quality options available. Please visit our Where to Buy listing to find a fabricator close to you.
Improved Energy Performance Screens to the outside of louvre blades can also aid in significant improvements to the insulation and shading properties of the window.
Security bars are an effective barrier when the louvre is open, that unlike screens do not reduce any air flow. Breezway has security bars available to fit 152mm (6”) blade heights in the Breezway Easyscreen Framing System.
Security Bars Altair Louvre Windows can have optional 16mm diameter solid aluminium bars fixed to the window frame to the outside of the blades and positioned to allow the window to open fully.
Colours and Finish Selection
Breezway offers a range of colours and finishes, with optional colour matched handles and clips.
Selecting the Right Aluminium Finish
The aluminium components of Altair Louvre windows are available in two different surface finishes: anodised or standard powder coating.
Powder coatings are polyester coatings from leading powder suppliers applied to a thickness of 50-80 μm and anodised finishes are to a thickness of 25 μm. Over time, weathering of powder coated surfaces should be expected, resulting in a gradual change in appearance. This will be evident in loss of gloss, chalking, colour change and erosion of the powder coatings. Selecting the right powder for the atmospheric conditions of the site and correct maintenance will be critical to the ongoing appearance of the finish.
